Oncoplastic Partnership Hands-on Skills Course
Date: April 5th, 2025 – This hands-on skill course is held in will be run in conjunction with the ‘Updates in General Surgery 2025‘.

By the end of the didactic sessions’ participants will be able to:
- Analyze a range of oncoplastic breast surgical techniques and their indications in order to select the most appropriate procedure for individual patients.
- Identify the anatomy and principles of oncoplastic surgery and select the right patient population.
- Apply clinical tips and techniques for managing tumours in every location of the breast.
- Recognize how to manage potential complications arising from oncoplastic procedures.
- Demonstrate novel techniques for performing good oncoplastic mastectomies when breast conservation is not possible.
- Recall tips and strategies to incorporate oncoplastic surgery in a highly efficient breast surgical practice.
By the end of the simulation sessions participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate patient assessment, markings, de-epithelialization and nipple recentralization.
- Show Glandular and Dermoglandular tissue mobilization and approximation, Crescent, Round Block, Racquet, VJ Mammoplasty techniques and Superior / Inferior Flap Reduction Mammoplasty techniques.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Recognize types of oncoplastic techniques and identify incision and indications/patient selection for Level 1 dual plane mobilization
HANDS-ON PART 1 Crescent Mastopexy-De-Epithelialization and Level 1 Defect Closure - All Faculty

By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Practice level one oncoplastic techniques on breast simulators
Level 2 Round Block – Dr. Jeannie Richardson
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Identify incision and indications/patient selection for Round Block mammoplasty and nipple recentralization aspects of this technique
Level 2 – Racquet – Dr. Jeannie Richardson
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Identify incision and indications/patient selection for Racquet mammoplasty and nipple recentralization aspects of this technique

HANDS-ON PART 2
Round Block and Racquet – All Faculty Drs. Brackstone, Hanrahan, Kapala, Richardson
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Demonstrate incisions for these Level Two Oncoplastic techniques and practice recentralizing nipple and closing gland appropriately
V and J Mammoplasty Techniques – Dr. Muriel Brackstone
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Identify incisions and indications/patient selection for these two lower mammoplasty techniques and now to manage inframammary fold discrepancy
HANDS-ON PART 3 V-J Mammoplasty – All Faculty Drs. Brackstone, Hanrahan, Kapala, Richardson
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Practice VJ mammoplasty techniques on breast simulator including optimizing glandular closure and managing the nipple location.

HANDS-ON PART 4
Level 3 – Superior and Inferior Pole Reduction Mammoplasty – All Faculty

By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Practice breast marking techniques and both pedicle procedures on breast simulator including optimizing glandular closure and managing the nipple location

By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Outline complications of oncoplastic surgery and how to manage them, including hematoma, lymphedema, flap necrosis and nipple necrosis
The Aesthetic Mastectomy – Dr. Marianna Kapala
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Apply techniques to improve cosmetic outcomes when performing a Mastectomy
